At first glance this morning I thought was passing a large rock or boulder near the side of River Road in Latham. After I passed it, I saw a little head poke out. About two seconds later another turtle appeared, followed by about five more spaced along the side of the road.
My initial reaction was to stop, pull over, and pick up the turtle to move him to safety. Then I noticed the size of these guys. These are the little box turtles that I we had in science class as a kid. These things were HUGE. Like ocean turtles except for the fact that they live in the Mohawk and their little turtle home was probably flooded due to the rain this week.
While driving this weekend, heads up for TURTLE CROSSING near water!
