As a parent, don't you feel horrible when you accidentally swear in front of your kids and hear them repeat the word? Good luck trying to get that toothpaste back in the tube!

Apparently, IBM has the same problem. Research scientists were trying to get the Watson supercomputer to understand Internet slag, so they used the Urban Dictionary as a study guide. Bad idea.

The problem was that Watson couldn't distinguish between polite language and swearing. Apparently it picked up some bad habits from reading Wikipedia and started using terms like “bull$h*t" in an answer to a researcher's query.

To fix the problem, researchers had to develop a filter to keep Watson from swearing but had to wipe the Urban Dictionary from the computer’s memory.

Wonder if that filter works on four-year-olds?
