An Albany man gets five years in prison for modifying a Ruger .22 caliber rifle to look like an AK-47 assault rifle.

Nasif Jackson, 26, was sentenced to five years to State Prison, followed by five years probation, by Judge Peter Lynch in Albany County Court on Thursday, March 6. On January 9, Jackson pleaded guilty to one Count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon (2nd Degree, Class D Felony).

Back on November 19, 2013, in the area of Catherine Street and South Hawk Street in Albany, officers from the Albany Police Department responded to a call about a person in a vehicle who was waving what appeared to be an assault rifle out the window. Soon after, police found the car parked on Livingston Avenue. Officers saw Jackson walk out of a home there and get into the car and drive off but he was quickly pulled over.

Officers also searched the home on Livingston Avenue and recover a loaded Ruger .22 caliber rifle which had been altered to look like an AK-47 assault rifle.
